Burnout ☞ Waking Up

Updated: Aug 25, 2023

Paralyzed. Thoughts racing, but yet movement stale. Energy bubbling underneath it all but yet can’t find a way out. What do I do? Where do I go? I know what I SHOULD do; BUT, I don’t WANT to. It feels to me like burnout. When you can’t give a single ounce of energy more to your day. When the day has begun but you have not. When the sun is gracefully rising and shinning it’s light on the bustling city, but yet you sit in a dull gray room that does not shine or glisten, it only sits with you, contains you, and reflects the dullness of burnout that you are currently experiencing. But yet- you can SEE the bright, shiny, elusive day outside of your window; but you can’t FEEL the sweet cool air on your skin; you can’t HEAR the subtle rustle of the leaves and trees swaying in the wind, the busy streets as people buzz about thier days; you can’t SMELL the salty beach air, the fresh gardenias that are planted under your window. No, you can only SEE it, not experience it. Burnout takes away the layers of life and is only one dimensinal. FLAT. FLAT like the ever expanisve Mojave Dessert. Flat and everlong- when will you get to see a hill, or experience a rainfall, or see trees or a forrest. FLAT. FLAT as the pulse reading on a monitor when LIFE has slipped into another realm from this world. FLAT.

But your LIFE has not slipped into another realm. Your life is currently present, inside the dull gray room. Look around. It’s a pretty shade of gray. It’s a very calm and peaceful gray. Look out the window. What a calm view of the trees swaying in the wind. What entertainment you have when you see your dogs chasing each other or when they smell individual blades of grass so intently as if each blade has a secret story to share, and your pups are savoring those stories; taking their time to soak it all in. Start with Movement and breath. Breathe deeply inside that dull gray room. BREATHE. Then move to the window, move slowly savoring each step. Each small step that propels you forward to a new location. Open the windows in the dull gray room and Breathe. SMELL the salty beach air, the fresh gardenias that are planted under your window. HEAR the subtle rustle of the leaves and trees swaying in the wind, the busy streets as people buzz about their days.

BREATHE. MOVE. BREATHE. MOVE. and repeat until you breathe LIFE back into your lungs and FEEL all that there is.

Burnout is scary. It is lonely. It is hard. It is uncomfortable. BUT it is TEMPORARY.

Befriend Burnout. Become curious about Burnout. What is it trying to tell you? Maybe that dull gray room is giving you space- space and time to really feel what you have been pushing aside because of the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Maybe you truly need that dull gray room. Because, it’s not dull at all- its transformative. BREATHE. MOVE. BREATHE. MOVE.

LISTEN to your energy. LISTEN to your gut. TRUST your Energy. TRUST your gut. What do you see now?
